FAQ BLOWER DOOR/DUCT BLASTER 1. If I am going to upgrade my equipment why should I need to do anything else? -- There are two distinct parts to a comfort system. The first and the one that gets all the attention is the equipment. It is like the motor of the car, no motor and the car does not move. The duct system is the delivery device that brings the conditioned air to the home/office. The same example, no transmission, no tires, all you have is a motor running and you are going no where. It takes both to make the system function as is it should. Without each component nothing good happens. 2. I have a functioning duct system now, my old equipment works and has worked for many years why all of the sudden do I need to consider my duct work now ? It is true, whether we installed the duct or another company the duct system has delivered air to the home/office for many years. We now have learned many things about the duct and know that the duct system will need as much attention to function properly as the new equipment replacement does. Example – In 1965 I had a Chevrolet pick up that got 10 miles to the gallon that I really liked and it performed very well. Today I have a 2006 pick up that gets approximately 20 miles to the gallon and performs much better. The difference between the two trucks is industry technology upgrades, driven to a good extent, by escalating fuel cost. 3. The Jim Brown Company put in my duct work, it should be great! If not how come and why should I consider them for a new system replacement ? We and all of our contemporaries of the time did the best we knew how to do with regard to the duct system. We now have the tools and technology to measure the performance of the equipment and duct work as never before. What we know today is much different than what we knew just a year ago. To not use the Jim Brown Company now would be ignoring our ability to prove our performance by testing your system with high tech tools, not to simply accept our word for the performance. 4. How do I know if what you are telling me is the truth or not? The truth comes in two forms. In order to be able to know and therefore tell the truth the company and it’s staff must be properly trained. In this case ignorance is not bliss. Secondly, the truth must come to you in a form other than words. Simply telling the truth is not good enough any more. We must be able to prove what we say is true. This proof comes in the form of highly technical tests and data collection. 5. How can you know what the Jim brown Company is saying is accurate ? The training that we received to test the units ( comfort systems ) and duct work was developed by Entergy . It is brought to us by Clearesults, a consulting company that specializes in energy management . We were trained by Clearesults . We did not design or develop the programs that we work under as this was done by highly professional groups . 6. How much money does a duct system waste and who quantifies these dollar amounts? When we do a blower door/duct blaster test we evacuate the air inside the home/office and set the pressure to a known value. We then, and only then, can measure accurately the amount of leakage a home/office has. The duct blaster is a tool that is designed to measure the air leakage of the duct system only. The measured data is collected and sent via telephone during the test to Clearesults, a consulting firm employed by the Entergy power company, this data is put in their computers and an average value for our area is returned to us in a matter of a few minutes. 7. In real dollars how much money does the average duct system waste? That is a question that can not be answered accurately. Each home/office is different, there are many different types of equipment providing conditioned air to the space it serves, and many different efficiencies of equipment. However in our tests we have found that the “average” duct system is somewhere around 70% efficient and depending on the utility bills this can represent as little as $20.00 per month waste up to as much as $75.00 or more per month depending on the situation. 8. How much does it cost to do a blower door/duct blaster test? It costs $90.00 and takes a professionally trained technician approximately 2 hours to perform the test. When complete the total structure leakage will be known, where the leaks are will be evident, and after a call Clearesults will give our technician that is doing the test a dollar amount those leaks are wasting energy based on their data on an average structure and average comfort equipment efficiency. Our Entergy customers will receive a coupon for repairs at this time. 9. When I agree to repair the duct system how do I know it did anything for me? When we determined the condition of the home/office we tested it as we found it. That gave us the base line for the home/office condition. We then evaluate the need for repairs and the cost to do the corrective work. If the customer wishes to have the improvements made we will do that work. Upon completion of the repairs we will set the blower door/duct blaster back up and measure the new results created by the repair work. We will not ask you to trust us, we will prove our work with the same equipment we used to determine the problem. 10. I would like to do the repairs but the cost is not in my budget, is there help for me? Yes there is, we have a budget plan in place that will allow a person to budget the repairs. For repairs under $1000.00 the Jim Brown Company will provide a budget plan that has no interest and we will allow the cost of the repairs to be repaid over the space of one year with a $5.00 per month handling fee. For repairs over $1,000.00 or equipment purchases or anything related to our company we have Geo Smart financing available for as little as $20.00 per month at 9.9% interest. Each plan has a fast qualification process so you will know immediately if you qualify. This will allow the utility company to pay for most, if not all, of the cost of the repair project. |
